Angelique Imani: Reporting from Life (#1)

("Friendship" By WickedNox---www.deviantart.com)

Hello my darlings:

I asked Cyn Ciity and Lady G to allow me to start making my own postings being that as soon as the Spring 2010 semester starts, I will be unable to attend further meetings. I hope you ladies don't mind me correcting typos and fixing formats. I'm sort of a grammar nut... sorry. If  I cross a line, I have been assured that I will get a pow-pow. LoL! I figured this would be a great way for me to check in with you all and post events, information and inspiration for all of you.

So, let's begin from the beginning, shall we?

I was following CynCiity on Twitter for a while (Let's follow each other if you have one: @Imani_Sublime is my Twitter name) when she posted a call for women to attend Revolution Ladies Night the first week of January 2010. What did I expect? I had NO idea. All I knew was that something compelled me to support. So I went...  and promptly got lost in LES (such a Bronx girl, I swear). Eventually, I made it and met a group of lovely young women who were open to support and encourage each other's creative endeavors, to applaud personal triumphs and to comfort personal tragedies.

Look at that, a whole new set of friends within an hour. *smile*

At the end of that first meeting, some us had cried, we all spoke of our hopes and fears, and we all realized that we were not alone. We laughed and took pictures and talked of what we ALL wanted to accomplish with RLN. What I personally hope for is to make these connections lifelong...to make sure that I do all I can to help with this blog, future performances and projects and most of all, to be there if one of the girls should need to vent, blow off steam or just to cry. This group has ALOT of promise and potential. I see many good things coming from this and I am proud to be a part of it.

Tomorrow I will be posting a piece inspired by a postcard done by the artist TooFLY that was given to me at that first meeting.

But today I will end this first posting with a quote from Paulo Coelho's "Warrior of Light: A Manual" (If you have read "The Alchemist", you should get this one too):

"Every Warrior of the Light has felt afraid of going into battle. Every Warrior of the Light has, at some time in the past, lied or betrayed someone. Every Warrior of the Light has trodden a path that was not his. Every Warrior of the Light has suffered for the most trivial of reasons. Every Warrior of the Light has, at least once, believed he was not a Warrior of the Light. Every Warrior of the Light has failed in his spiritual duties. Every Warrior of the Light has said 'yes' when he wanted to say 'no.' Every Warrior of the Light has hurt someone he loved. That is why he is a Warrior of the Light, because he has been through all this and yet has never lost hope of being better than he is."

~ Paulo Coelho, 21st century Brazilian writer from Warrior of the Light

Big Hugs,
Angelique Imani ;o)
